Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga to Hit Theaters May 24th
Critics Praise Prequel to Mad Max
The long-awaited prequel to the Mad Max franchise, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, is set to hit theaters on May 24th.
The film, directed by George Miller, has been highly praised by critics since its debut at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. IGN's review calls it "a masterful examination of one of the greatest characters of the last 20 years," while The AU Review describes it as "a great news" that "opens in theaters May 24th."
Furiosa tells the origin story of the titular character, a fierce warrior played by Anya Taylor-Joy. The film follows Furiosa's journey from a young woman captured by a warlord to her rise as a leader of the rebellion. Along the way, she encounters a cast of characters played by Chris Hemsworth, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
While the film does depict the rise and fall of Dementus, that part of the story is mostly a backdrop. Furiosa is first and foremost a story about a woman's strength and determination.
